If you speak a different language to your mother tongue fluently, try to resist the urge to think in that language when you’re around your children.

If you make an effort to process all your internal dialogues in your “own” language, it will come naturally to you when you speak to your children rather than sound artificial. Children do pick up on that and respond to it.
