Fun holidays - 2006/05/30 07:09
Hi everybody,

are you going somewhere fun this summer ? We are doing the annual "visit the family" trip back to Europe. The most exciting part will be 2 weeks in southern Germany visiting the REAL cinderella castle Neu Schwanstein (which inspired Disney),hiking in the Alps behind the castle, cycling around the lake at the bottom of the mountains and staying/living on a local poney farm. I have been in the region before and loved it. Now we will go as a family (hence the accomodation on the poney farm . Silke

We are also going back to "old Europe" for the summer. We will spend one week in the UK to see our friends then go and stay with my in-laws in the French Alps (lots of hiking as well). We will also stay one week near Avignon (south of France) in a rented villa with 4 other friends and to finish the holiday, we will stay with my family in Nantes not far from the sea (near Brittany).

We are flying to Saigon for 3 weeks holiday. We lived in Vietnam for 2 years before UAE. Both the girls will go to their old small French school there for 2 weeks of the holiday.
Then we are off home to Sydney where we will get a rather cold Australian winter shock!

We are going to Germany for 2 month !!
We will hire flats and also stay with the grandparents.
Can't wait to smell forest and fresh air in general !!

I want to ride my bicycle with the kids on the back and WALK a lot ....as much as this is possible with 3 kids under 6 years...

Also an english speaking friend of us will join us for 3 weeks in Germany, so I'm very curious how my girls gone handle this.

I wish you all a great summer and looking forward to see this great group of people back again in september.

Enjoy your time off

Kerstin and family

Hi everyone,
we are currently visiting the country side in the UK, first north of London, then Cambridge and now the Cotswolds. It is so beautiful in the Cotswolds ! Amazing. We are in a little village called Burford, very cute, lovely old stone houses and cottages, definitely recommendable!

Hi everyone,

just wanted to report from our 2 week holiday on the pony farm in Schwangau/Allgaeu, Southern Germany (5min from the border to Austria/ 1.5 hours from Munich and 5 hours from Frankfurt by car). It was fabulous !!! The pony farm (with the rides, kittens, rabbit babies, goats and fouls ...) is the perfect place to keep the kids' attention and give the parents some time off. As they have 3 rooms and 1 apartment for rent, there are usually other (German) children to play with and the host family themselves are having two daughters, one is 5 and the older one is 9. So if you want your children to practise their German (without relying on you) this place is perfect for that. There is a shallow river to the side of it where the children can take a bath (10 -15 cm deep) and with 35 degrees which we had at times, this was a welcome refreshment for the kids (it is not always that hot). Other attractions in the area include:
- the royal castles of King Ludwig (among which cinderella castle)
- the alps mountains to hike, or take the cable car up to walk around on the summit and to have some local food in one of the mountain huts
- paragliding
- boat tours on the lake
- cycle tours (cycles including kids bikes can be rented everywhere)
- adventure paths through the woods (these are educational paths which some fun exhibits to keep kids amused)
Excellent value for money ! I have already booked for next year (normally I never go to the same place twice but this is too good not to). The house is called Ponyhof Fischer, they are located in Schwangau and their phone number from the UAE is 0049 83628281.
If anyone wants more info, let me know.
