Help the children understand other cultures - 2006/10/09 11:36
What do you think about setting up activities to help our children understand what other cultures celebrate. We could then enjoy the event together (for those members who want to join in ). Let me know what you think and which extra ideas you might have on the subject...

I think this is a very good idea. I would be ready to prepare something for maybe "mardi gras" in February. It would be nice to work in pairs though.

I agree..... It sounds like a great way to introduce your children to other cultures (not just languages), if you want them to be open-minded, and grow up respecting all cultures equally.

Working in pairs is also a better idea than working alone, so if there are any Egyptians willing to join me, please let me know!

There are a few. Some stemed from religion and others from Pharaohnic times. Right now, Ramadan comes to mind.... Children carry lanterns at night and sing traditional songs. Originally, they were lanterns with real candles locked securely insinde. Nowadays, they are all battery-operated. My kids love them!
