The Multilingual Network Dubai (themlnetwork) is a friendly support group for parents of bi-/multilingual children and those who would like their children to become bi-/multilingual. We are an active multicultural community of parents and potential parents who support and help each other to successfully bring up our children with more than one language. We started to come together through the workshop on “Raising bi-lingual children” in February 2006. There were previously no support structures for parents of current/future bi-/multilingual children. Since then we regularly share experiences, create new language opportunities where they are needed, such as language clubs for either kids or adults, and constantly extend our Dubai language resource databank. The languages spoken by the members and the language support needed stretches across all languages: the current members have more than 25 different nationalities and are interested in more than 16 different languages for their children.

“Attending the "Multilingual Workshop" was my first step in admitting that although I consider "bilingualism" essential for my children in my mixed marriage, I still needed help in order to achieve my goals. Armed with the understanding, I set off with my plans. But working on my own to achieving my goals afterwards was no easy task......... And that's where the "Support Network" came in for me.
